A few months ago, we explained to you how you can compare simulation and test data. The article focused on the support of Nastran input and output files: how they can be imported into Simcenter Testlab (formerly called LMS Test.Lab) and how you can use them together with test modes for results comparison.
Did you know that the same support is available for ANSYS files? In a continuous effort to make the Simcenter Testlab Desktop a more efficient tool to access, visualize and utilize data from different sources, we added with release of Simcenter Testlab 17.2 the possibility to read and import geometries and mode shapes from ANSYS files. Most importantly, this feature is entirely free of charge with a regular Simcenter Testlab Desktop license!
To use this feature in Simcenter Testlab 2021, installed the Simcenter 3D driver. See the knowledge article "Simcenter 3D Driver for Simcenter Testlab".
You can now use ANSYS files in Simcenter Testlab to:
- Qualitatively compare experimental and simulated modal analysis results
- Animate mode shapes in a side-by-side display
- Use the FE geometry to expand your mode shapes and animate your experimental modes on a denser and more realistic geometry.
The process of reading results is extremely simple: browse the Navigator to your .rst file containing the FE model results and double-click on it. You will access the geometry and the modal parameters. You can also right-click on the file and convert it to a native Testlab .lms file.

To visualize the geometry, simply drag-and-drop it to a display like any other geometry.

Animate the ANSYS FE modes in just a few clicks.
